Is RKHunter worth the time?
by upnort from LinuxQuestions.org on (#57Z3S)
At work and home I've been using rkhunter for a few years. I'm aware of similar tools such as chkrootkit. Conceptually I like the idea. Yet I find over time I am routinely adding exceptions. Often I wonder if rkhunter is effective.
Security is about layers. I accept that rkhunter is just one component in that strategy. Included in that strategy are timely patching systems, limiting access, etc. While subjective -- and I don't want to sneer at the earnest development and support for the project, do you think rkhunter is worth the time?
Thanks for your thoughts.
