Watt disheartened by boos during pregame display of unity

J.J. Watt was disappointed by the boos that rained down at Arrowhead Stadium while the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs stood together in a display of unity before the NFL season opener.

"The moment of unity I personally thought was good," the Texans star said after the game, according to NFL Network's James Palmer. "I mean, the booing during that moment was unfortunate. I don't fully understand that. There was no flag involved. There was nothing involved other than two teams coming together to show unity."

The demonstration took place after the national anthems, for which the Texans remained in the locker room. The Chiefs were on the field for the playing of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and "The Star-Spangled Banner." The two teams linked arms to promote racial equality and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said he didn't hear the boos, and speculated that they may have been a reaction to his team coming onto the field for the first time.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also said he didn't notice the boos. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he was unaware of them at the time.

"Being down there, I honestly didn't hear a lot of booing; I've seen a little bit of the videos after," he said, via Yahoo Sports' Terez A. Paylor. "We wanted to show unity and show we were going to come together and fight the good fight and we hope our fans will support us like they do in the game every single day."
