unable to install debian on oracle virtual box

i am running windows 10 and wanted to install debian 10 so that i do a adual boot. i was advised to first have a feel of debian by using virtual software ie oracle virtual box. I have hit a snag with this. i get an error message - failed to open session for the virtual machine. i am considering abandoning the idea of using virtual machines altogether and doing a dual boot install. May i get some assistance with this. I really want to get started working with linux and these teething problems are discouraging.
