Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay won't play Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to turf toe, head coach Vic Fangio announced Friday, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic.

Fangio added that wide receiver Courtland Sutton's status is a "50-50 thing" for Week 2. A shoulder injury kept Sutton sidelined in the season opener.

Lindsay injured his foot in the first half of Monday's game against the Tennessee Titans and didn't return after halftime. He was held to 24 rushing yards on seven carries in Week 1.

He's led the Broncos in rushing in each of the last two seasons and has put together back-to-back seasons with at least 1,000 yards since Denver signed the undrafted free agent in 2018.

Lindsay's absence will leave Melvin Gordon as the Broncos' No. 1 rusher, with Royce Freeman as his backup. Gordon rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown on 15 attempts during his first-week debut with the club.

Sutton, meanwhile, is coming off his best NFL campaign. He made his first career Pro Bowl after racking up 72 receptions for 1,112 yards and six scores in 2019.
