Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor is week-to-week with the chest injury that kept him out of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Chargers are unsure whether Taylor will be ready for their Week 3 matchup versus the Carolina Panthers, Schefter adds.

Taylor was set to start in Week 2 but experienced difficulties breathing before kickoff, which forced first-round rookie Justin Herbert to make his NFL debut. The chest issues stemmed from a pregame injection Taylor received for a rib injury, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

Despite Herbert's strong performance, head coach Anthony Lynn said postgame that if Taylor is "100% ready to go, he's our starter."

Herbert completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 311 yards and one touchdown against one interception during Los Angeles' 23-20 overtime loss. The sixth overall pick also rushed for 18 yards and one score.

Taylor started for the Chargers in their season-opening victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, throwing for 208 yards on 16 completions.

The Chargers signed the veteran signal-caller prior to the 2019 season to serve as Philip Rivers' backup.
