San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Jimmy Garoppolo's ankle injury isn't severe and the quarterback has a chance to play against the New York Giants in Week 3, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Garoppolo suffered a high ankle sprain during the first half of Sunday's matchup versus the New York Jets. The signal-caller completed 14 of 16 pass attempts for 131 yards and two touchdowns before exiting the game.

Shanahan added that running back Raheem Mostert is unlikely to play versus the Giants due to an MCL sprain, per Schefter. Mostert, the 49ers' leading rusher last season, was also injured during Sunday's game and didn't return.

Additionally, running back Tevin Coleman is expected to miss multiple weeks, including San Francisco's Week 3 contest, due to a knee injury, a source told Schefter.

Jerick McKinnon is now set to take an increased workload in the 49ers' backfield after stepping up with 77 yards and one touchdown on three rushing attempts against the Jets.

Meanwhile, an MRI confirmed both defensive end Nick Bosa and fellow lineman Solomon Thomas are out for the season with torn ACLs.

The 49ers entered Week 2 already without tight end George Kittle and linebacker Dee Ford.
