Dual booting two linux distros

Hi, I'm planning to dual boot Kali and Elementary OS. Currently Kali is installed as single boot but I'm happy to format the drive and start from scratch if this is easier.
Is it possible to add on Elementary OS without formatting? If so, what's the best way to go about doing this? I don't need any files shared between the two distros either. Thanks in advance
