Report: Newton asymptomatic, needs 2 negative COVID-19 tests to play
New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton hasn't experienced any COVID-19 symptoms as of Monday after testing positive for the virus last week, a source told ESPN.
Newton - who reportedly tested positive Oct. 2 - must continue to not exhibit symptoms, have two negative tests 24 hours apart, and be cleared by the Patriots' doctor to potentially play in Week 5.
New England hosts the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The AFC East club hasn't had any other positive COVID-19 tests.
With Newton sidelined for Week 4, Brian Hoyer started Monday's game - which was pushed back due to Newton's positive result - against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The veteran quarterback was benched for Jarrett Stidham after throwing one interception and losing a fumble in the 26-10 loss. Stidham also had two turnovers, including a pick-6, but he threw the first touchdown pass of his career.
