"Empty" folder

Hi
I keep my data on USB mobile drives. I have a drive with three folders containing data. All of a sudden one folder on this one drive is showing empty. Yet if I move it onto a MS machine, all the files are there and working.
I'm using three different Linux Mint 19.3 - Mate machines and the problem occurs on all the Linux machines.
Any advise please? Thanks in anticipation.
