The Houston Texans' search for the fourth head coach in team history will begin only after the 2020 season - and it'll have to wait until the team finds a new general manager.

"We'll search for a general manager first, find the right guy, and then we'll hire the coach," Texans owner Cal McNair said Wednesday, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. "Jack (Easterby)'s agreed to be the interim general manager while we conduct our search. Once we find the right GM, Jack will return to his position as executive vice president of football operations."

The Texans, who are 0-4 to start the 2020 season, parted ways with head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien on Monday after six-plus seasons.

Houston plans to have assistant head coach Romeo Crennel on the sidelines as the team's interim head coach until the end of the campaign.

"We're going to do this the right way," McNair said. "We'll start the interview process after the season and follow the league's protocols.

"We're going to work hard to get the best possible people for our organization. I think within the next couple of weeks, we'll start the process internally. Right now, we're focused on Sunday's game against (the) Jacksonville (Jaguars)."

O'Brien posted a 52-48 regular-season record with the Texans and went 2-4 in the postseason. He was the third official head coach in franchise history after Dom Capers and Gary Kubiak.
