Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith is receiving medical opinions on his neck injury, and one scenario being considered involves him sitting out for the remainder of the season, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Smith suffered a setback with his injury, but no final decision has been made yet, Garafolo adds.

The veteran tackle hasn't practiced this week, and head coach Mike McCarthy didn't offer an optimistic outlook on Smith when speaking to the media Thursday.

"He's further back than he was this time last week," McCarthy said, per ESPN's Todd Archer.

The Cowboys' offensive line is already thin after losing right tackle La'el Collins to season-ending hip surgery.

Smith has missed two games this season but managed to suit up for all of the offense's snaps in Week 4.

The left tackle has made 133 career starts and has been selected to seven Pro Bowls since entering the league in 2011.
