And now for something completely different,,,, Sonar?

Hello all,

To begin with, I had joined here not long ago, and received help regarding my printer/fax/copier and new foray into Linux. Thank you for that, everything was achieved nicely, and I truly wish I'd gotten rid of microhell YEARS ago, as Linux is way-cool/so-much-gooder!

Now, that being said, I have an absolutely off-the-wall idea, and figured I'd ask here first. I/we (myself and My Lady) each have our own tower, and our own "LapTab's" (that is what we call our tablets with keyboards) and she has a Laptop also.

And we have a boat.

Now, we have been looking at a few different suppliers to upgrade our 'fish-finder/depth-sounder/sonar-thingy' so that we don't run aground or anything like that. (it is an older boat, with an 'electronics package' that is well over 15 years old) One of the things we've learned is that nothing is 'upgrade-able' and everything seems to be disposable after the first year'ish....

Which is shear lunacy in my mind. So here's my point. Does anyone build/hack/clone a sonar program to run on a Linux system? Also, does anyone have a "USB connecting transducer" to run said system? OR a transducer plug TO USB sex-change-thingy (that's a technical term)

If not, WHY not?

I realize that many think that "Boat" stands for Break Out Another Thousand... but not everyone has that luxury. Hence why we're looking at this dimension.

And, hence why I'm asking this here, first, as it has been proven in the past that there are quite a few VERY knowledgeable people here with more brains than I....

So please, tell me where to go! (everyone else does) and thanks for reading this far...latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=K9R78X1etYI:19ZyyjstH-4:F7zBnMy latest?i=K9R78X1etYI:19ZyyjstH-4:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=K9R78X1etYI:19ZyyjstH-4:gIN9vFwK9R78X1etYI
