Old/New Linux maintainer
by dkktav from LinuxQuestions.org on (#59456)
Hi, I've just joined Linux Questions.
From before kernel 0.95 until when kernel 2.6 was pretty new, I maintained Linux laptops, desktops and servers -- including producing preconfigured system images to be installed on servers around the world. But it's been ~15 years since I've maintained my own Linux systems, and I've forgotten more than I remember (and most of what I didn't forget has become obsolete).
I'm back because I've bought my first computer of choice (rather than by work assignment, or what a family member needed) in a long, long time.
Observations:
- I'm a little surprised that it's still version 11 of the X Window System that we use (though I've used it without maintaining it (or authoring it) in recent jobs).
- It's nice to know that I should no longer need to carry around with me a stack of 3-1/2" floppies (the install media) when I travel.
