Using Clonezilla to create partition image from encrypted partition?

I have Linux Mint installed on two partitions - boot unencrypted 500MB, and root encrypted 50GB. The used space on the root partition is 20GB and the free space is 30GB. I used Clonezilla to create backup image from the both partitions and the size of the backup was 25GB. Is this normal? Shouldn't be the size of the backup image be less than 20GB?
