The Carolina Panthers released cornerback Eli Apple on Tuesday, the team announced.

Apple signed a one-year deal with the Panthers in May but suffered numerous injuries during training camp. He started the season on the team's injured reserve list.

The Ohio State alum was active for Carolina's Week 4 contest against the Arizona Cardinals, where he saw limited action. The 25-year-old tallied four tackles against his former team, the New Orleans Saints, last week.

Apple, a first-round pick of the New York Giants in 2016, has recorded three interceptions, 33 passes defended, and three forced fumbles during his career.

The Panthers will lean on cornerbacks Donte Jackson, Troy Pride, Corn Elder, and Stantley Thomas-Oliver.
