Melvin Gordon apologizes for DUI; preparing to face former team
Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon spoke to the media Wednesday, two weeks after he was cited for driving under the influence.
Gordon took the opportunity to apologize for the incident.
"I try to do my best to walk a straight line and lead by example with things like that. I'm a little upset that I even put myself in the situation for it to be brought to others, including my family who was reaching out," Gordon said.
"I had a hard time dealing with it myself. Like I said, I hadn't been in trouble before, so it was tough. To the people of Denver and everyone, I don't want anyone to feel like I don't care and say, 'Oh, he got his money, he doesn't care.' I do. I'm not happy I was in the situation."
After missing the Broncos' Week 6 game due to illness, he returned to the field in Week 7 and carried the ball 17 times for 68 yards in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 27-year-old will next face his old team Sunday when the Broncos take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
Gordon spent the first five years of his career with the Chargers and held out at the beginning of the 2019 season in the hope of landing a new contract. He instead left for Denver via free agency after the season.
"Obviously, it's going to be cool to go up against some of the guys that I built a great relationship with over the years, but it's not different than any other team," Gordon said. "We're going to prepare the exact same way and go out there and try to get this W."
