Kernel support for AMDGPU + RX 580 (Polaris)

Not sure if this is properly a 'hardware' or 'software' question, but I'm trying to figure out which kernel revision added support for AMDGPU with Radeon RX 580 (aka Polaris) and/or the rest of the V. Islands GPUs. Basically 'how old can it go' or 'how new does it need to be' (depending on how you look at things).
