getting all hardware to work
by vesperto from LinuxQuestions.org on (#59RBX)
This is probably a stupid question.
I've recently installed Slackware 14.2 on my old laptop (Tecra R840-10T) and am in the process of tweaking it (i.e. making everything work).
My first step was compiling lshw to get some decent information on hardware (any other tools you recommend?), but i don't see the GSM modem listed.
Also, the smartcard reader and the microSD card reader don't seem to be recognized either.
All of these were working before with liveCDs (i'll double-check).
Another issue (this one will take longer) is that most F-keys won't function with Fn for regular laptop functions (e.g. Fn+F6 should lower the brightness). This is especially worrisome for wifi and bluetooth, as they're always on and draining battery.
So where should i start?
