The quest for a COMPLETE Debian archive...
by rudepeople from LinuxQuestions.org on (#59WBR)
Don't ask me why, you'll just fall into the abyss with me and when you look into the void... the void looks into you.
I have decided I want to build a VM library of all (currently 15) stable releases of debian, from Buzz to Buster.
For the later releases, that's easy! all I need to do is download the relevant ISOs from http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/ and away we go! but when you get back past 3.0 (slink, hamm, bo, etc.) though the documentation occasionally references CD-ROM install, there are no such images. Additionally, the root.bin files are unreadable by virtualbox.
to be fair, NONE of the files are readable, I have to rename them to *.img and then they work... but this is clearly NOT the correct way to do this. additionally, the root.bin files are completey defunct. I simply cant get them to mount in virtualbox. [EDIT] - I cant even mount them normally... I suspect these are raw-images of the ramdisk, which makes sense... but how do I USE them? do I have to get me a floppy drive just to force this?
So... does anyone have access to the older CD-ROMs discribed by the documentation? or better yet, does anyone know the juju to get an .img file from a .bin?
