Dunnville long-term-care home closed to visitors after staff test positive for COVID-19

Three staff members at Grandview Lodge have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting Haldimand County to declare an outbreak and suspend visits to the Dunnville long-term-care home.

The staff members are currently self-isolating," said county spokesperson Kyra Hayes, noting the test results came back on Tuesday.

For the protection of the residents, and in accordance with Ministry of Health requirements, all visits within the home are suspended effective immediately," Hayes said.

Grandview is a 128-bed retirement home administered by Haldimand County.

Hayes said Grandview staff wear personal protective equipment when interacting with residents.

Grandview Lodge staff and residents have the full support of Haldimand County and our thoughts are with the three staff members as they recover, along with everyone in the community who is affected by this virus," Hayes said.

There were 26 active cases of COVID-19 in Haldimand-Norfolk as of Wednesday morning. The health unit reported five new cases and five new recoveries, so the overall number of active cases remained unchanged from Tuesday.

Of 552 total positive cases, 489 patients recovered while 32 died of COVID-19 and five deaths were attributed to other causes.

The health unit has conducted 5,948 negative tests.
