ubuntu machine became slow

hey guys,
i have been using ubuntu for a little while now,
normally it works really fast and smooth but for some reason or other it is not as fast anymore,
i do not know why but it might be because of the new mysql i installed,
i cant see how would that be the problem but i'm pointing it out anyway,
i would love to get some help,
