Jones rules out QB from Cowboys' draft plans: 'Dak is our quarterback'
Jerry Jones all but eliminated the possibility of the Dallas Cowboys selecting a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 draft, calling the idea crazy.
"Yes. You asked me if it's crazy to bring that idea up, and I'm answering you yes," the club's owner said on 105.3 The Fan. "We're playing games here, guys, but it's not the thing to be talking about at all. You know, Dak (Prescott) is our quarterback."
Jones received the query in light of the fact his team is off to a 2-7 start and would be in a position to draft third overall if the season ended after Week 9. The 2021 draft is expected to feature two blue-chip quarterback prospects in Clemson's Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State's Justin Fields.
Prescott, who's on the franchise tag in 2020, is a free agent at the end of the year. He and the Cowboys failed to strike a long-term agreement before the campaign, and he wound up suffering a season-ending compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in Week 5.
Prescott sat second on the passing yards leaderboard last season and led the Cowboys to the league's top-ranked offense. He ranked first in passing this season through the first quarter of the campaign.
