Can't access files (from file chooser) from a certain application (pulseeffects)

Please note that
+ I can save files through the "save preset" icon
+ I can't choose files to load, through "load preset"; specifically the files are available but greyed out.
+ if I run the application through "sudo" in terminal, I can't even find the files through the file chooser
