why does terminal say "no file or directory" in downloads wheni do chmod (unbutu)

sudo chmod +x /home/path/to/the/file/OptiFine.jar
is what i have and it says
chmod: cannot access '/home/path/to/the/file/OptiFine.jar': No such file or directory
