Cinnamon crashes and goes into fallback mode when 2nd user tries to sign on

Running Mint 20 with Cinnamon, with dual 23" monitors on a GeForce 8600 GTS video adapter using the NVIDIA drivers. Everything works fine until I try to switch to another user id (leaving the 1st user still running) by using the switch user function. When the 2nd user logs on they get a message that Cinnamon has crashed and is running in fallback mode. It asks if I want to restart cinnamon without applets, desklets, and extension, which I tried and got the same results. It doesn't make a difference of which user id I use, the 2nd person to sign on always get this issue. Anyone have any suggestions or is there any additional information needed? Also, as soon as I initiate the switch user, the 2nd monitor loses signal and the primary monitor appears to switch down to a very low resolution.
