One new COVID death in Hamilton
Hamilton is reporting one new COVID death and two new outbreaks Friday.
According to Hamilton public health, the latest death involves a woman in her early 90s who lived at Chartwell Willowgrove long-term care home in Ancaster. She died on Thursday.
The new death brings Hamilton's total number of people who have died with COVID to 73.
The two new outbreaks are at Advanced Motor Solutions, located at 15 Imperial St. in the city's north end, where four staff have tested positive and First Place Hamilton seniors' residence, located downtown, where one staff member has tested positive.
There are ongoing outbreaks at 11 long-term care and seniors' homes. At Chartwell Willowgrove, the largest outbreak, 43 residents and 23 staff have tested positive. Fourteen residents have died.
Outbreaks at Hatts Off Group Home, Ridgeview long-term care home and Jonathon's Perron Floor Coverings are now over.
There are 36 new cases in Hamilton Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 2,589 and total number of active cases to 331. Of all cases, 84 per cent, or 2,180 cases, are now considered resolved.
Hamilton's reproduction number, which means the number of people someone with COVID tends to infect, dropped to 0.85 from 1.25 on Friday.
