Also on Nov. 17, Canada Post learned an employee at its Hamilton West Delivery Depot, at 590 Tradewind Dr. in Ancaster, tested positive for COVID-19 after being tested on Nov. 14.
A Canada Post spokesperson confirmed in an email the employee was asymptomatic. The worker followed physical distancing measures and wore a face covering.
"We have followed the guidance of public health in informing employees, supporting contact tracing and conducting thorough deep cleaning and sanitization within the facility," the Canada Post spokesperson said. "We certainly understand that operating during COVID-19 can cause concerns for employees. That's why, since the beginning, we've committed to closely following the advice of public health officials at the national and local level in order to keep the employees and the people they serve safe."
The spokesperson added, "We've implemented numerous measures in all facets of our operations, and we follow the by-laws and requirements in each community. We've implemented physical distancing in all our facilities, used visible markings, staggered start times where necessary, increased cleaning and availability of safety equipment and sanitizers and provided reusable face coverings, which are required in our facilities in Ontario when physical distancing can't be maintained even for brief periods. We regularly talk to employees and require they do a self-assessment before arriving for work."
