mixpre 6 II linux setup help

Has anyone managed to use a mixpre 6 II on linux as a USB interface?
Ultimately I wish to access the mixpre 6 II via Reaper, but I cant seem to get anywhere.
I can see the mixpre via lsusb or dmesg. When I start alsamixer I can select it, however I am told 'This sound device does not have any controls.'
Any thoughts?
