Sherwood school closed after possible threat posted online
Sherwood Secondary School is closed Monday as police investigate a possible threat posted online.
Hamilton police said the school was closed by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board as a precautionary measure."
The school, at 25 High St. on the Mountain, is still continuing online following students' regular timetables, school board spokesperson Shawn McKillop said in an email early Monday.
The board said the closure is to support a police matter."
Communications with respect to school reopening will be shared as soon as possible," he said.
Hamilton police received online information Sunday night about a possible threat to the school.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident, however; at this time we have not located any evidence to substantiate a threat," said Const. Jerome Stewart.
An anonymous Twitter account tweeted at the school board, OPP and RCMP at 4:41 p.m. Sunday saying they had information about a potential school shooting at Sherwood Monday.
The school board's official Twitter account responded that: threats against our schools are investigated and taken extremely seriously." The school board said it notified police.
Information about the school reopening will be shared by the school board when available.
