kbd-1.15.3 is a bit old, is there a reason why we're not using kbd-2.3.0?

I noticed that we're using a very old version of kbd, dated back to 2012

I did notice that there's a lot of patches that comes with the currently used 1.15.3 that are old as well.
Any ideas?
