Networking - where to start

Hi everybody,
not only is this my first post here, but it is my first steps into Linux, so if I am posting in the wrong place, I apologise, but the FAQs did mention anything remotely connected to Windows should go in general.
So here's where I'm at.
I had an old Packard Bell laptop that was too old to upgrade to Windows 10, so I thought I would play around with Linux. I put in an old SSD to jazz things up a bit.
Not knowing which distro to go for I have set up a dual boot with Ubutu and Windows FX.
All seems to have installed OK.
My first hurdles are how to share stuff over my Windows based domestic network, and following on from that how to connect wirelessly to my network Canon inkjet printer.
I'm sure this is a simple thing to do, but as the rest of the network is running sweet as a nut I really do not want to mess with any of the other Windows PCs.
All I could find was a dialog asking for the printer URL, and I only have its ip.
Is there something I can do/install on the Linux side to enable it to see at least one other pc and the printer.
If it helps, the PC I would like to share with is set up with a static ip as it is conected to a Synology NAS.
Apologies if this is a boring newbie question and thanks in advance for taking the time to assist.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=5ku5q_kgroE:1xCLXucnpGU:F7zBnMy latest?i=5ku5q_kgroE:1xCLXucnpGU:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=5ku5q_kgroE:1xCLXucnpGU:gIN9vFw5ku5q_kgroE
