Oakville man charged with impaired driving in crash that left woman and her dog dead
Halton Regional Police have laid charges in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of a woman and her dog, both struck by a car.
The deadly collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 3) in the area of Lakeshore Road East and Burgundy Drive.
A 51-year-old Oakville woman was pronounced dead, as well as her dog. Police said the woman was out walking the dog along a path.
Police said the involved vehicle was originally eastbound on Lakeshore Road East, before "it left the roadway to the south side," said Det.-Const. Oliver Caves in a news release. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound, off the roadway, where it struck the woman and her dog, who were walking along a path.
The vehicle then struck a decorative stone post.
Police revealed early Friday the driver of the car, a 58-year-old Oakville man, has been charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death. His name wasn't immediately being released by police.
