Brampton men charged with fraud after allegedly scamming Hamilton senior
Two Brampton men have been arrested after a Hamilton senior was allegedly defrauded.
Hamilton police say the crimes against seniors unit (CASU) began an investigation into a scam involving a 95-year-old Hamilton resident on Sept. 11. The victim was told to send a large sum of money to an address in order to avoid being arrested," police say.
An 86-year-old man from British Columbia was also allegedly defrauded in connection with this case.
Hamilton police executed a search warrant at a Brampton address on Oct. 14, and ultimately identified two suspects from the Brampton area.
Two men, ages 19 and 26, are charged with fraud under $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. They are expected to appear in a Hamilton court on Feb. 9, 2021.
Police are reminding the public to be cautious of suspicious" calls.
