Unable to run wine after Dec 3 current update

It seems that after the Dec 3 update to current wine can no longer initialize any 32 bit dll's

0024:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk "comctl32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
0024:err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Initializing dlls for L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winecfg.exe" failed, status c0000005

I reinstalled wine and multilib to no avail.
I also compiled wine from Alienbob's source and it still won't run.
Could be a gcc10 issue?

Any hints would be helpful
