Oakville mother and her dog killed while crossing Lakeshore Road had just moved into ‘dream home’
Family members have identified an Oakville woman hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver while walking her dog.
Louise Whiten, 51, a married mother of two, had just moved into the family's "dream home" in Oakville so that their dog would have a nice yard and walking trails, family members said in a statement.
That all came to a tragic end Thursday afternoon (Dec. 3) when Whiten and her dog were both killed while walking along a path in the area of Lakeshore Road East and Burgundy Drive.
The car then struck a stone post, according to Halton police.
Both Whiten and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene.
In a press release issued Friday, Dec. 4 Halton police said they charged a 58-year-old Oakville man with impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
Whiten had a private speech pathology practice based in Mississauga.
"Louise loved children, animals and was the heart and soul of our family," the statement from the family reads. "We are heartbroken and devastated as we grieve, and we ask for privacy at this time."
The family also wanted to thank Halton police and other emergency responders for their "kindness and professionalism," along with the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community.
