How to install slackware 14.2 on newer hardware?
by cdek from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5BEH6)
I am trying to install slackware 14.2 on newer hardware, an intel nuc, using alien bob's live cd.
Using the live cd made it possible to install 14.2 on the nvme drive, but, after reboot, I have no network. The kernel is too old to recognize the network card.
My nvme drive has these partions:
* nvme0n1p1: BOOT partition
* nvme0n1p2: SWAP partition
* nvme0n1p3: ROOT partition for 14.2
* nvme0n1p4: HOME partition
* nvme0n1p5: ROOT partition for live_cd current plasma 5 edition
The setup program during installation of 14.2 installs elilo on my boot partition (I think). But it doesn't recognize my installation of current on the fifth partition which therefore no longer boots.
How could I best solve this problem? I need network for my 14.2 installation on nvme0n1p3 and I need elilo or another boot loader to be able to boot both partitions.
Can I use the kernel packages from current to upgrade the 4.4 kernel or do I have to compile the kernel myself?
And how and where do I update elilo? I have a boot folder in nvme0n1p1 and one in nvme0n1p3, which confuses me. Is it possible that the kernel is copied from one boot folder to the other?
