Switching to a tiling WM

Good evening,
I've recently made the decision to make my desktop as clean and efficient as possible.I've tried several windows managers including awesome and xmonad and settled on i3. I've used linux for a few years now but i'm still pretty much a noob when it comes to window managers. Any suggestions in terns of applications/customization tools or anything that would make this a good idea for someone strictly used to using a full floating de? Anything is greatly appreciated.
