Panthers' Rhule expects McCaffrey to miss Broncos game
Christian McCaffrey's season continues to be ravaged by injuries.
Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said he expects the star running back to miss Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos due to shoulder and thigh ailments, according to Joe Person of The Athletic.
The All-Pro running back has already missed nine games with a high ankle sprain and a shoulder sprain.
Carolina sits at the bottom of the NFC South and has been eliminated from playoff contention.
McCaffrey - who led the league in scrimmage production by more than 500 yards in 2019 - has 225 rushing yards, 149 receiving yards, and six total touchdowns this season.
Mike Davis has taken on most of Carolina's backfield work in McCaffrey's absence, racking up 504 rushing yards, 329 receiving yards, and five total scores in 12 appearances (nine starts).
The Panthers made McCaffrey the NFL's highest-paid running back with a four-year, $64-million contract extension this past offseason.
