Changing floppy disk file names with special characters ('é', 'è', 'ê', etc.) to copy them elsewhere
by rm_-rf_windows from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5BH3E)
Hi all,
I am copying old floppy disks and some of the files have special characters (French... 'e', 'e', 'e', etc. ... My GF knows nothing about computer technology). For the life of me, I cannot remember how to alter the names of a floppy disk file (it's been a long, long time!). It wouldn't let me do so.
How can I save these files whose names contain special characters? When I try to copy them I get an error message. Is there a way of working around this problem?
(Luckily, after searching for drivers for Windows with no success, I simply plugged in my external floppy disk drive using Lubuntu, and, lo and behold, it worked! Linux is great!)
Many thanks in advance,
RM
