Report: Cowboys' McCarthy safe despite woeful 1st season
The Dallas Cowboys aren't planning to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy in the offseason despite his dismal first year at the helm, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
McCarthy has endured a rocky debut in the Lone Star State, with the three-win Cowboys underperforming even more than they did during their 8-8 campaign under Jason Garrett in 2019. Dallas was notoriously patient with Garrett, giving him 10 seasons despite frequent calls from fans to fire him.
McCarthy may make changes to his staff at the end of the year, especially on defense where the Cowboys are surrendering a league-worst 32.8 points per game. Dallas ranks in the bottom 10 of the NFL in both scoring defense and scoring offense.
Before arriving in Dallas, McCarthy posted a 125-77-2 record from 2006-18 and won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers.
