Man in life-threatening condition after Hamilton Mountain stabbing
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation into a stabbing on the Mountain Sunday morning that left a 42-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
Hamilton police were called around 6 a.m. on Dec. 13 to East 27th and Concession streets for a man stabbed by an unknown suspect or suspects.
Initially, divisional detectives were investigating. At 6 p.m. that evening, the major crime unit - which investigates homicides and attempted murders - took over the case.
His medical condition degraded during that time," said Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk, of the major crime unit. The 42-year-old remains in hospital in life-threatening condition.
The Hamilton man had been at a house on East 27th before the stabbing, he said.
There was some sort of a commotion and yelling around the time of the stabbing. The victim, who was outside, initially walked down East 27th and then collapsed onto the roadway, just south of Concession.
A dark-coloured SUV-type vehicle was seen driving south on East 27th.
Police have not seized a weapon, but believe the victim was stabbed multiple times.
The victim was unable to tell police what happened.
The family has been notified and are at his bedside in hospital," Bereziuk said.
Police have been in the area canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video along East 27th and Concession Street west to Upper Sherman Avenue.
Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Richard Wouters at 905-546-4921.
