Concerning Downgrading Debian

{NOTE: In 2005, I first installed Sarge for my very first experience with Linux and Debian.
I upgraded it to Etch for a few months and downgraded it to Sarge again. It went "smooth as silk", and I followed the Stable distribution of Debian until 2011, when I got myself another brand new computer, then I did a complete install}
The question:
Is Debian still easily downgradable?
Yup, it's a simple question.
Does anyone have an opinion concerning this?
