10.7 maintenance problem question keyboard files
by Don Littlefield from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5BVCK)
Hello I use buster 10.7 on an MSI 97 GuardPro mother board with I5 CPU 8g ram 2.5T storage wired keyboard and mouse.
I decided to upgrade to an wireless keyboard and mouse. I got a Dell KM636 set and installed it. I Used it for a short while and messed up the key map files I think. Problem was the keypad would not type numbers any more. After a lot of hassle I got a new one from Dell and it did not work either. I finally tried a live CD Buster 10.3 and found the keys work just fine there. After some searching and help I decided to reload the system. I downloaded the 3 ISO's for DVD 10.7 and burned to DVD and tried to reload. A failure occurred at about the time it wanted to load the grub-2 file . After 3 attempts I had the install system do a verify on the DVD which passed. 1 more attempt failed same place. Then I used my old version 10.3 and completed this install. It works perfect now. I will upgrade again to the 10.7 later.
However I am wondering if there is a procedure to fix problems in the installations like this one which would probably have been resolved by doing a reinstall of the keyboard support files. That would have been much less load on the servers than what I did. Also when I was doing my searching for key map files on the man pages for key map files the man pages had incorrect files listed that were not there in my system. Reference this thread on LQ request for help. Post #7 at the bottom.
