Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay confirmed Tuesday that his team would interview interim head coach Raheem Morris for the Falcons' head coaching job next season.

"He will definitely, in the process, be interviewed," McKay said Tuesday, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He's earned that right. I've known Raheem (for) a long time. I remember when we hired him in Tampa as an assistant secondary coach."

Morris was named interim head coach in mid-October after Atlanta fired Dan Quinn, who started the 2020 campaign 0-5.

Morris, 44, has posted a 4-5 record this season. He won three of his first four games as the interim head coach but has lost four of the past five.

"He is really a good football coach," McKay said. "He inherited a situation. We were 0-5. When you're an interim coach with 11 weeks to go, that's more than challenging. He's earned that right to be interviewed, and he will."

Morris has head coaching experience as he led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11. He owned a 17-31 record with the Bucs.

Atlanta also parted ways with longtime general manager Thomas Dimitroff in October. The club's potential candidates for its next GM reportedly include Anthony Robinson, Rick Smith, and Louis Riddick.

The 4-10 Falcons are already eliminated from the playoff race with two games left in the regular season. Atlanta has now missed the postseason in each of the last three campaigns.
