Giants' Judge committed to Jones for next season: He's our quarterback
The New York Giants aren't sure whether Daniel Jones will be available to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, but head coach Joe Judge already knows he wants the quarterback to be under center next season.
"Daniel Jones is our quarterback," Judge said Wednesday when asked if the second-year signal-caller will be the starter next year, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
"To me it's a string of moments watching Daniel work," Judge added. "Watching the respect he has in the locker room. Watching him lead throughout this season. I think he's demonstrated a level of toughness and leadership and knowledge on the field that gives us confidence to put him out there and build with Daniel."
The Giants selected Jones sixth overall in 2019 but the Duke product has failed to match the high investment so far in his young career.
Jones has fumbled 28 times since entering the NFL, including a league-high 18 in his rookie campaign.
Additionally, the 23-year-old has completed 62.6% of his pass attempts for 2,462 yards and eight touchdowns against nine interceptions through 12 games this season.
Jones' status for Week 16 is uncertain as he's dealing with hamstring and ankle injuries. He missed last week's loss to the Cleveland Browns but returned to practice Wednesday.
Veteran Colt McCoy is expected to draw his third start of the year if Jones remains sidelined.
The 5-9 Giants need a win against the Ravens if they want to keep their chances of winning the NFC East alive.
