One arrest made after Christmas morning drive-by shootings

One person has been arrested after a series of brazen drive-by shootings in north Hamilton early Christmas morning.

Hamilton police responded to the corner of Wentworth Street North and Macallum Street for reports of shots fired at about 10:10 a.m.

Within minutes, police were called to the area of Barton and William streets, less than a kilometre away, for another report of shots fired.

There, a suspect was arrested, said Sgt. Sara Beck.

Beck said both shootings are connected and believed to be targeted attacks.

There were no injuries.

Police have cordoned off one home on Wentworth just off Macallum. No bullet holes are readily visible on the home's exterior.

Ted Davis lives next door to the cordoned off property.

He and his kids were fresh off unwrapping Christmas presents when they got in the car to look for an open coffee shop.

Then, as they pulled out, Davis saw a police officer looking at him.

I thought they were going to get upset because I didn't clean off my car enough from snow," Davis said, noting he didn't hear anything which would suggest a shooting occurred steps from his house.

But I got out of the car and they had a gun drawn on me and told me to get down."

For a few minutes, his kids frantic in the back seat, Davis' was down on a snow-coated front yard as police delivered instructions to him.

He said police nearly handcuffed him before he cleared up the confusion and said, I live here, not there," alluding to the targeted home next door.

Then they helped me up, apologized, said Merry Christmas,' and we were on our way," a chuckling Davis said on his front porch, adding it was an unusual Christmas morning.

Beck said the investigation remains ongoing and there is no threat to public safety.
