So I have one drive in my laptop. It is partitioned for three partitions, sda1 2 and 3. sda1 was a test install of BSD. sda3 is a LUKS LVM with multiple thin-provisioned LVM volumes within. sda2 is the /boot partition, containing kernels & init ram disks for the various Linuxes within the LUKS LVM. sda1 2 and 3 are the only partitions on this drive in this laptop.

lsblk reports this:

Where did sda5 through 8 come from? Is this early evidence of disk corruption?

lsblk in Slackware and LFS both show the three phantom partitions.

cfdisk shows sda1, 2 and 3 only, as is proper.

In /dev there are (imaginary?) devices for sda5 through 8. How? Why?
