Matt Schaub to retire after 16 NFL seasons

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub is retiring after 16 years in the NFL, owner Arthur Blank revealed Monday.

"He's been a great player for us," Blank told reporters, including William McFadden of AtlantaFalcons.com.

Schaub, a former Pro Bowl MVP, spent his first three and final four seasons with the Falcons. His career peaked with the Houston Texans, where he started 88 games over seven campaigns from 2007-13 and earned a pair of Pro Bowl selections. He topped the NFL with 4,770 passing yards in 2008 and steered the Texans to their first-ever playoff berth in 2011.

Schaub is known mostly for his time in Atlanta and Houston, but he also suited up for the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.

A former third-round pick out of Virginia, Schaub finishes his career with 136 passing touchdowns and 91 interceptions. He earned over $95 million throughout his career, according to OverTheCap.
