How to ReInstall Ubuntu on top of alreadg installed Ubuntu
by veebee from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5CF49)
I messed up some files on Ubuntu and thinking of reinstalling it. It is single boot 18.04
There was no "ReInstall Ubuntu" option so I'm going with the "Something Else" option. I'm confised with which partitions to format and which to choose as the device for boot loader installation.
1. Sda has -
- sda1 (efi)
- sda3 (ext4) (system: ubuntu 18.04.3 lts)
- sda5 (swap)
- sda6 / 7 (ext4)
Which ones should be formatted? I'm guessing sda3 and sda1? Most of my data is on sda6/sda7 though. Sda1 is the boot partition it looks like, and sda3 is the root partition.
For sdab6/7 where data is stored, if I do use as=do not use partition, there is no option to select mount point. Is making use as=ext4 safe?
2. For the sda partitions, do we need to specify mount points? I remember what sda6/7/3 were mounted to in the actual system.
3. What should be the device for boot loader installation?
Should it be sda (the entire drive), or sda3 or sda1?
I'm new to understanding linux, so any help would be appreciated.
