showmount command returns nothing in setting up nfs share

I am trying to set up a NFS share. I did the step of setting up NFS server on my laptop at home ( have wifi router etc at home); then I tried to the steps for NFS client in my desktop PC. When I issued the command
$ showmount -e 10.0.0.5
( expecting to see the list of NFS shares) ;
The command hung, and did not return anything.
Ant ideas what is happening? Thank you.
I could ping each other using ip addresses; but they do not seem to "talk to each other".
